What is your interest in the CreativesDC beta community?
The primary distinction of the artist is that he must actively cultivate that state which most men, necessarily, must avoid: the state of being alone.

The Creative Process, which calls on the artist to cultivate the state of being alone. The aloneness of birth and death like the fearful aloneness that one sees in the eyes of someone who is suffering, whom we cannot help. The conquest of the physical world is not mans only duty. He is also enjoined to conquer the great wilderness of himself. The precise role of the artist, then is to illuminate that darkness, blaze roads through vast forest, so that we will not, in all our doing, lose sight of its purpose, which is, after all, to make the world a more human dwelling place. The role of the artist is the same role as a lover. If I love you, I must make you aware of the things you don't see. James Baldwin. (C)

The arts are essential to the health and vitality of our communities. They enhance community development; spur urban renewal; attract new businesses; draw tourism dollars; and create an environment that attracts skilled, educated workers and builds a robust 21st century workforce. We need to join together and urge our fellow Americans and Congress to be more inclusive of the arts and culture so that we as artists can continue to help revitalize America and her economy.
How are you using your imagination and original ideas to enrich our economy and culture in DC, and beyond? Or, how would you like it to?
I would hope that my art influences people to tap into a true sense of creativity and pull out there guts to get to their glory; which does come at a price! So many artists in the world have talent but never develop their creativity to make it speak to the target audience it sits in front of. So many artists want to play it safe and are afraid to go deeper into the void - The viewer - the art patron is also fearful of showing work that demands a change we can all believe in - looking deeper within OURSELVES!
Bio (html accepted)
In life there are many factors that affect a persons perceptions, feelings, and indeed their values and future directions . born I was in Michigan of NATIVE-AFRICAN-EUROPEAN AMERICAN ANCESTRY.

born in the Midwest, raised in the nice orderly Heritage Hill neighborhood one of the largest urban historic districts in the country. Down the street from The Mayer May House, [designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright] where we would climb trees to the roof to get at the crab apples and black berries . yum!

My childhood was adventurous and fun.
Barbara Woodhouse taught me that there are no bad dogs just bad people who own them; armed with that info I made it my mission to rescue every dog in the n'hood from bad owners until one day my parents asked why are there 9 dogs + the 2 we already own in our house!? [the dog whisperer has nothing on me]

I took my dolls to the back yard and built whole cities for them. I brought peace to every school room entered and as a tom boy did not like wearing dresses to school or anywhere else. Then grew up to travel around in the fashion and beauty industry... I know how to build a real house from scratch - yep from the ground up... can fix any car too - just don't ask me to install electrical wiring or a gas line.

But I also have the same blood line as Edmonia Lewis - am the daughter in the dust of Louise Nevelson - the sister of Frida Khalo - grand daughter of Elizabeth Catlett, cousin of Barbara Chase-Ribaud, forever in-depted to Camille Claudell and the niece of Audrey Flack. As a child I used to play and sit on Alexander Calder in front of the court house as the unquiet river city of my birthplace is still rolling on it's grand rapids .

Now I live in a strange political town in a condo apt. and create art by assembling random finds, chance encounters. I long for that big spacious house I used to know...then company can come in and have a place to sit [maybe not].

I make beautiful things from clay . new things from discarded goods. bronze. glass. paper. metal. bones. leather. wood and what ever else I can find ....trying to listen so they can speak thru me.

I'm a mixed-media figurative artist. sculptor. painter. writer. print maker. illustrator. fashion designer. photographer. glass maker. exhibition specialist . educator. sculptural engineer . healer. truth is my medicine.

born I was, in Michigan of NATIVE-AFRICAN-EUROPEAN AMERICAN ANCESTRY - I am one of the nicest people you could want to meet - I have traveled all over this world as a woman, as an artist who happened to be born in red-brown skin - that is my inheritance and my birthright. That is my role as the artist it is the same role as a lover. If I love you, I must make you aware of the things you don't see. James Baldwin. (C)
