- What is your interest in the CreativesDC beta community?
- I want to hook up with other like-minded creative people because it gets lonely to be creative all by yourself.
- How are you using your imagination and original ideas to enrich our economy and culture in DC, and beyond? Or, how would you like it to?
- Before I suffered health problems that resulted in major surgery in November, 2008, I was purchasing used and disheveled Barbie dolls in a thrift store, clean them up, alter their hair, create new clothes out of fabric remnants purchased at a fabric store, and make fairy wings out of polymer clay. I would sell them as fairy dolls at local craft fairs (such as Crafty Bastards and the Greenbelt Green Man Festival) and they were a big hit. People loved that I took something that was dirty and a turn-off to people who aren't broke and created something lovely enough for people to love. The kids especially loved it. But I'm not sure if it influenced others to do the same or not because I haven't seen others try to re-make used Barbies into interesting dolls.
Since I'm still recovering from the surgery, I'm slowly getting back into making stuff again. I would like for my creativity to influence other people.
