Bio (html accepted)
I moved to Washington DC in December 2003 to manage the Cultural Development Corporation’s Flashpoint project.

I came to DC from Philadelphia where I created and ran the Greenfield Elementary School artist-in-residency program for Mum Puppettheatre. I also served as Managing Director of 1812 Productions, a non-profit theatre company that focuses on comedy. Also, I worked on the Philly Fringe for three years in various capacities. Previously, I was a Professional Apprentice with the Arden Theatre Company. I served as assistant director to Obie winner Whit MacLaughlin on 'Twelfth Night' at the Arden, learned the art of puppetry from Robert Smythe, and performed as a puppeteer in the touring production of 'Sideshow and Circus' and in 'When the War is Over' for Mum Puppettheatre.

I was born and raised in Dillon, Montana, graduated of Viterbo University, in La Crosse, WI with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre. I am also a graduate of the Sandglass Theatre Institute at Marlboro College, in Marlboro, VT.

My passion is American art. North American art. We have great stories in this continent and I see my purpose in life to discover the journey of finding them and getting at least some of them told. It is through this journey I have developed an understanding of story telling and the power stories have to communicate a culture. I look to have professional experiences that can set up spaces and places for artists to develop and explore the rich history of this continent.

"In less than two years after moving to Washington, Julianne Brienza has transformed the once-dead cultural scene in the thick of our summer sweats. Brienza launched the Capital Fringe Festival because the city was ready for a rough-edged arts extravaganza that would lure performers from around the world and open up our burgeoning collection of theaters to people who can't afford pricey tickets and those who relish a dip into the unknown." washington post 11.18.2008

What I do here in DC to enrich the DC economy and culture.

Fringe presents a yearly independent performing arts festival called the CAPITAL FRINGE FESTIVAL in the month of July.

Fringe also works with the youth east of the river. – under our FRINGE TRAINING FACTORY YOUTH-LED program. We are cultivating these students. Giving them an outlet for their voices. These voices are the future and will join and shape the DC performing arts community.

Through out the year Fringe produces and presents new works by local and visiting artists in our performing arts venue FORT FRINGE space located in Downtown DC outside of the yearly festival.

Fringe is committed to using vacant/unused buildings and spaces in the District Metro area. To date Fringe has created theatres, scene shop, offices, art galleries and just some fun hang out spots in three vacant buildings in downtown DC.
