Profile Information

What is your interest in the CreativesDC beta community?
I'm interested in connecting with other like minded Creatives in DC particularly those with an interest in urban real estate.
How are you using your imagination and original ideas to enrich our economy and culture in DC, and beyond? Or, how would you like it to?
I want to see a massive influx of new residents and locally owned businesses in DC.

I’d like to see urban living become the defacto choice for a majority of people in the DC area when they decide to move away from home for the first time. I’d like it to be possible for families, artists, government and non-profit workers, and people from all walks of life to afford a home in a vibrant walkable neighborhood. I’d like to know that 15 minute commutes to work by bike or foot are the norm, that car free living is widespread, and that everyone has the choice to forgo megamalls and chain restaurants for life if they so chose because of the vast array of locally owned businesses in every DC neighborhood to serve their wants and needs. I want to see all this happen in DC, then I want to see the story spread out across the nation.

I’m using my creativity to start a business focused on the ground floor of this movement working directly with homeowners and homebuyers who love urban living. I’m exploring ideas and looking to create a new model providing the real estate services Creative homebuyers and sellers want.

From social networking online and in person, to crowdsourcing, to beta communities, to shared homeownership, to “not so big living”; I’m looking to explore and highlight some of the most innovative ideas for working with people before, during, and after they buy or sell a home.

I need the help of other Creatives to start down the path of making this vision a reality.

What truly remarkable ways can I reach Artists, college students, people living at home in their parent’s basements, and others who haven’t yet thought about moving into the city, and what do they need to see/hear/be a part of to make them realize how great city life can be?

How do I start a conversation with people who don’t yet own a home in the city? What issues are important to them and what resources can I provide to engage them in a conversation? What do they hate about Realtors and home buying?

What about people who already own in the city and thinking about leaving because of a new baby or other reason? How can I connect with these people and what issues are they facing that should be addressed?

What issues are facing would-be entrepreneurs looking to start a restaurant, bookstore, clothing boutique, or other innovative business in an emerging city neighborhood? Are there questions they have or ways to connect with them early on? What information and services do first-time entrepreneurs need to help them find the right location for their business?
Bio (html accepted)
I've spent the last 6 years working with some of the largest and most innovative urban real estate developers in Washington DC and Baltimore in the redevelopment of some great urban neighborhoods. During my time in the development industry I've seen first hand how strong the demand to live in vibrant mixed-use urban neighborhoods has become, but I've also discovered how hard it can be for people interested in living this life to find the kind of home they are looking for at a price they can afford in a neighborhood that fits their lifestyle needs.

For this reason, I have set out on a mission to help young people, young families, artists, and other creatives by developing a unique real estate service specifically for them. I've started a new company called Cooltown Living DC with a goal of using the power of crowdsourcing to develop the home buying and selling services that Creatives want and need.
