Check out the School and Community Reuse Action Project in Portland and also the Creative Reuse Warehouse in Chicago.

These are an excellent tool and provide options for art supplies at a low cost and frequently incorporate donated and recycled materials which keeps items out of landfills and puts them in the hands of people who can make good use out of them. The Creative Reuse Warehouse was an invaluable resource when I was living in Chicago and our house made lots of visual and noisy props for protests after September 11.

Check out this link: Green Reuse Marketplace

They are a client of mine, and currently are connecting salvaged materials with builders. Seems like there may be some overlap / room for synergy.

Community Forklift is a similar organization in Hyattsville that also works with building materials and might have some interest in collaborating. They also have some space available, but it's a little bit difficult to get to without a car. I talked to some people at Crafty Bastards who sounded interested and also there are some arts groups that are trying to get use of some of the closed down schools for art spaces.
